COP3 - MODULE EVALUATION

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I feel this module has allowed me to develop a range invaluable skills which has allowed the successful completion of the module - from research skills, to critical analysis to practical skills, such as book binding and designing for print. I feel ultimately that the research element of the module has been the most valuable in terms of sourcing appropriate information, and extracting key quotes and theories allowing for a successful piece of analysis. Furthermore these combined skills have led to a well thought through practical element being successfully synthesised. I feel carrying out primary research in particular, conducting surveys and visits further deepened my knowledge on the subject at hand, whilst allowing for more succinct, detailed, in depth and valuable research to be analysed and discussed. Taking the research collected for the dissertation element, was heavily reflected in the practical element, almost becoming a research tool itself, therefore I think I have applied relevant skills where necessary to the highest standard I could.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development progress?

In regards to design production, the idea that the female body has changed over time, a topic echoed throughout the essay, was taken and expanded upon in relation to the practical element, heavily shaping the theme and overall tone of the work, whilst allowing for design development. As much as the essay having a major influence on the practical, this element in particular was designed as a publication consisting of both imagery, and analytical information. The idea of having an image and an essay for each year set informed the simplistic layout, ensuring all necessary information is portrayed clearly. Due to the type of publication, this informed the type of binding. Due to costs of getting a 300 page book professionally bound, I took on the challenge of perfect binding the publication myself, again developing new skills whilst being informed by an obstacle. I feel however, the final publication is still to a high standard in terms of execution and I am very happy with the outcome.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I feel that both the amount of research collected and used is a strength, as well as being knowledgeable on the subject at hand, allowing for a successful module.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in future?

I think the book itself could be even better if professionally hard back bound, however I am happy with everything I have done and achieved throughout this module.
